KIDS EYE CARE

You can be confident that your child’s eye care is our priority – from helping to protect their vision and regularly monitoring their eyesight, to sourcing frame ranges that we know they’ll love and want to wear.

Caring for your kids’ vision

As children grow, their eyes develop, which means their vision can change. That’s why kids’ eye care is so important, and it’s vital to have your child’s eyesight checked on a regular basis. Being able to detect any issues with their sight at this crucial stage of development can also help to ensure your child can continue to reach their full potential.

Common eye conditions

There are several eye conditions that are more common in kids including

Signs to look out for

Diagnosing a vision problem as early as possible is important for ensuring optimal development. If you notice any of these warning signs, you should schedule an eye test. There are a number of things to look out for including:

  • Squinting
  • Sitting too close to the television or holding books too close to the eyes
  • Frequent eye rubbing
  • Complaining of headaches
  • Sensitivity to light and/or excessive tearing

Kids' eye tests

At M&S Opticians, kids’ eye care is a priority. We use specially designed charts for kids with shapes and pictures to make eye tests easier for them. Our Opticians are trained to test kids’ eyes and always try to be welcoming and make them comfortable.

NHS Eligibility

To ensure children have the best possible start in life with their eyes, we provide free NHS eye tests and even a selection of free frames, should they be required, to all children under the age of 16.

Kids’ Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are not just for adults, kids can also benefit from wearing them. As long as they are comfortable handling and looking after them, children can start using contact lenses at any age. They are a great alternative to glasses and provide some practical benefits:

  • No more breakages, smudges or steaming up. You may find they are a practical solution for your active child. Contact lenses provide better peripheral vision, which will help your child if they play a lot of sports
  • If your child doesn’t like wearing glasses because it makes them self-conscious, contact lenses can make them feel more confident
  • Contact lenses have been clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia (short-sightedness) in children

Why not arrange a free contact lens assessment for your child, so you can see how they’d get on with contact lenses? Just contact your nearest M&S Opticians store to find out more.

Kids’ Glasses

It is possible to find a pair of kids' glasses which are functional, comfortable, and trendy. Your kids can be both stylish and comfortable wearing their glasses. Built with kids in mind, we have selected durable frames in a variety of glasses styles and vibrant colours. Find frames that are just as unique as your child.
